A volunteer team of doctors, nurses and technicians performed heart surgery
for ten patients in 2005 as part of one of the largest philanthropic efforts
in Guam’s health care history.

Guam is only cardiac care center in the region and
serves as the central tertiary care center for all of the Micronesian
islands
-
MRF plans to make four trips a year to perform
cardiac-related surgeries.

Focus is catheterization, up to twelve surgeries a trip.
-
Future plans include placing stents and performing
angioplasty.

Over $250,000 in medical equipment has been donated to
Guam Memorial Hospital.

These efforts are sponsored in partnership with Valley
Heart Association.

Patients identified as most in need of the surgery incur
no cost for services rendered.
Furture Goals:
A follow up cardiac
team is planned for the spring of 2007.
